...setting up early on a blustery Saturday morning. It was worth it! The celebration turned out to be a wonderful event, in spite of the ever changing weather.
...and that means missing all the Saturday morning toons.
Thank you so much for being the hosts of our Reforestation Celebration!
A view looking east on Silver Avenue at Mesa (which was still a dirt road) after the completion of the WPA planting project in the 30s. That's the Braziel Home on the southeast corner (or the first visable home on the right).
Same shot as the1934 photo taken March 27th, the day after our Celebration.
Bill Cobb and his past and present Board members, as well as several past presidents and their Boards have worked for a very long time on the "Tree Project". Documentation of the declining streetscape and the need to do something about it dates back to the late 1970's. The success of this first phase is very encouraging and will prove to be a model for future projects of this kind here and elsewhere.

...congregate to observe and partake in the festivities and feast.
...offered words of encouragement and support for the preservation of historic neighborhoods.
The Mayor has been one of the best advocates for the reforestation project. Whenever the machine got stuck he managed to get the wheels moving again. Did you know that the Mayor reads and responds to his email everday...and quickly? "I couldn't believe it either, until I needed his help one day. He was on it in a heartbeat." (S. Mayer - 1701 Silver Ave SE)

Our first neighborhood wide event of the year turned out to be a great success. Thanks to the SHNA Board of Directors, Suzy, Tom, Katy, Sarah, Michele, Elizabeth, Lucille, Jessica, and Gordon...oh yeah, Bill helped too.
Bill Cobb, SHNA President, presents the Charles Watts Tree Dedication to Betty Watts, Charles' mother. Mr. Watts left us much too soon in February, 2005. He was a long time resident property owner, landlord and Board member who worked diligently for the Silver Hill Neighborhood.
You don't know how lucky we are to have Lt. Conrad and his team on watch! The dedicated men and women take time before their shift to attend the celebration. You can help work toward a crime-free Silver Hill by documenting and reporting any suspicious events in the neighborhood. Send your information to Jessica at Silverhillcrimewatch@yahoo.com.
Earl Bourne opened his home and brought out the Clyde and Carrie Tingley memorabilia for the Dedication Day event. Mayor Chavez held a press conference there, in the style of the "old days".
A canopy awaits: our new palette of trees, Burr Oak, Chinese Lacebark Elm, Chinese Pistache, Chinquapin Oak, Chisos Oak, New Mexico Live Oak, and Soapberry.
